Reiki and Self Mastery

“Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power.” — Tao Te Ching
Self Mastery is a powerful and interesting concept.
For some, it brings to mind feelings of suppression or control. It can feel sacrificial – like forgoing your desires in order to be some perfect figure on a mountaintop.
Conversely, to others it speaks of returning home to our True Nature, which is the Soul.
We can enjoy delicious food, relationships, things that satisfy us on a physical level while striving to ultimately remember that it is the Soul that holds the reins.
We can notice our relationship to the world of the senses and use our discernment to catch when we are being controlled by our cravings and desires.
In those moments, we can choose to remember that we are not the body, emotions or thoughts – We are the SOUL. (This wording comes from Grand Master Choa Kok Sui’s Pranic Healing.
From that lens of perception, we can choose to act and live in a way that is ultimately loving to ourselves and others, to the best of our abilities.
The goal of self mastery is reflected in the Reiki Precepts, which we strive to live by, as practitioners.
Just for Today,
Do not anger.
Do not worry.
With gratitude, practice diligently.
Be Kind to Yourself and others.
The part of our selves that is in alignment with the Precepts is the part of ourselves that is in a state of Self Mastery and alignment with our soul.
With this understanding, we see that Reiki is about so much more than just hands-on healing.
It is a spiritual path.
A system of daily practices that can help guide us towards Self Mastery.
This is why it is imperative to dedicate ourselves to practicing the Precepts, the meditation and breathing techniques, the symbols and mantras, and our self-healing, after we receive the attunement and our training.
If our practice only focuses on beaming energy, we are missing the heart and soul of this spiritual path.
In truth, when we understand Reiki as a practice more deeply, we begin to realize that it’s not really about beaming energy at all, even when we are sharing healing with another.
It’s about aligning with our Higher Soul, embodying and emanating that pure soul light and emanating a force of Spiritual Energy that is guided by Divine intelligence and wisdom.
So there is no need to manipulate or control it, and there is no need to tell it what to do.
We work to embody our own wholeness and harmony and create a field of alignment and healing that others can entrain with if they choose.
We flood the space with Divine light and peace that comes from a limitless Source, and trust each being who chooses to share in it will take from it what they need, guided by their own Inner Wisdom and willingness to heal themselves.
From this perspective, healing is not something we DO.
It’s something we can BE in those moments when we surrender to the flow of Reiki and shine in the light of our True Self.
The Reiki path, then, is a way of practicing gentleness, compassion, harmony, and wisdom as we gradually work towards embodying more of these moments of Self Mastery.
Just for today.
In truth and light,
Krystle Ash
This is not an overnight thing.
Rather, it is the gradual fruit of our daily practice that washes away the layers of anger, fear, worry, and unkindness that cloud our True Nature, which is the light of the soul.
